Crafton Labs Signs Agreement with Solana Labs for Blockchain-Based Games

Krafton Labs, creators of the popular Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), has announced the signing of a business agreement with Solana Labs to facilitate blockchain-based gaming. For starters, Solana is a decentralized blockchain which is more efficient than Bitcoin, Ethereum or any other blockchain.

A single transaction on the Solana blockchain network consumes less energy than two Google searches and 24 times less energy than charging your phone, according to a report from the Solana Foundation. Created by Anatoly Yakovenko, Solana runs on a decentralized computer network using a ledger called a blockchain. The company claims to be the fastest blockchain in the world and touts its ability to verify 65,000 transactions per second at a cost of less than a penny each.

“Krafton will continually see ways to work closely with blockchain companies like Solana Labs as we take a step toward creating our own Web 3.0 ecosystem,” said Hyungchul Park, Head of Web 3.0 Roundtable at KRAFTON, Inc. A blockchain with power in high speed and low fees, Solana represents the best of the Web 3.0 ecosystem and its technologies. Through this collaboration, KRAFTON will gain the insight needed to accelerate its investment in and production of blockchain-based experiences.”

According to a press release, Krafton and Solana Labs are preparing to build a long-term collaborative relationship to develop and operate blockchain and NFT-based games and services. The two companies will collaborate in the marketing and design of blockchain games and various blockchain technologies, as well as jointly collaborate on investment opportunities.

“We see gamers increasingly looking for on-chain games and game companies that respond quickly to this demand will position themselves well for continued success,” said Johnny Lee, Head of Game Business Development at Solana Labs.

Last month, the company announced that it will enter the Web 3.0 and NFT business based on its game development ability and operating experience gained from BGMI. Since then, the company has announced investments and collaborations with partners from other areas related to the NFT, metaverse, and blockchain, including Seoul Auction Blue, XX Blue, and Naver Z (Zepeto).
